This is a new feature for SoC News & Notes: a brief profile of one of our SoC colleagues and a notable aspect of their work. I'd like to include more of these profiles in the future, so please let me know if you'd like to share some information about your work with your colleagues.
Corey Anton has wide research interests, but his most recent work focuses on the role that communication technologies play in the evolution and processes of consciousness and culture. He is particularly interested in the ways that the alphabet and forms of print literacy structure and organize thought and society, and also, comparatively, how emerging communication technologies are altering orientations toward education, community, and relationships.
2017 was a highly productive year for Prof. Anton, leading to a co-edited book (Taking Up McLuhan’s Cause: Perspectives on Media and Formal Causality), four book chapters, and three journal articles. He also guest edited a special double-length issue of The Review of Communication.
