Our own Melba Vélez Ortiz will be speaking at TEDxGVSU on March 16. More information is available on the TEDx website. Tim Penning wrote a chapter entitled "Donors Preferred Information Types, Qualities and Sources," which was published in the Handbook of Financial Communications and Investor Relations. According to the publisher, the Handbook features "contributions from leading scholars and practitioners in financial communication and related fields—including public relations, corporate communications, finance, and accounting" and "provides readers with a comprehensive, up-to-date picture of investor relations and financial communications as they are practiced in North America and around the world."
Adrienne Wallace and Robin Spring will be panelists for an AEJMC webinar entitled The Killer Crossover: Student projects that transcend courses or semesters, resulting in work that makes an impact. Adrienne and Robin will join panelists from James Madison University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Elon University to "share methods and examples of how student projects can be extended beyond the original scope, offer cross-disciplinary collaboration or span multiple courses / semesters."
National Radio Hall of Fame Inductee John Records Landecker visited GVSU on February 8 to discuss his 50-year career in radio. During his visit, Dean Fred Antczak presented him with a surprise: a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting degree. Len O'Kelly had worked with Betty Schaner in the Dean's office to evaluate John's previous credits from GVSU and MSU and line them up with the Broadcasting major requirements. After being presented the degree, John was speechless, eventually commenting, "I came here today a college dropout, and I'm leaving a college graduate."
More details about John's visit to GVSU can be found in this post on the SoC's dot[COM] blog. Melba Vélez Ortiz was elected to the NCA's Nominating Committee, which is responsible for creating the election slate for NCA national leadership positions from president on down. Please congratulate Melba and thank her for this important service.
From the SoC dot[COM] blog:
On Wednesday, January 31, Dr. Penning presented the results of his extensive published research in this area to 60 nonprofit professionals, as part of the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy‘s Brown Bag Lunch & Learn series. See the full post here. GrandPR, GVSU's student-run PR agency, was one of five student agencies selected nationwide to host a CreateAthon on GVSU's campus. CreateAthon is a 24-hour marathon to develop a campaign for a nonprofit organization. Host schools will work with nonprofit organizations from their own communities to develop campaigns utilizing marketing techniques, public relations strategies, creative digital and broadcast tangibles, and more. GVSU's CreateAthon will take place on March 23-24.
In addition, GrandPR has also landed a job to create a product launch for an Artprize-specific product line made by Gluten Free Bar and Ferris Coffee. Be sure to congratulate Adrienne Wallace and the GrandPR team on these outstanding accomplishments! |
